The simpler explanation is usually best. You propose a very elaborate strategy with enormous risks to explain the recent changes to Google search. Here’s an alternate theory: an inept CEO has just trashed the company’s most valued asset (search result relevance) in a panicked response to a perceived threat from Facebook.
My theory isn’t as pretty — but it’s simple. And human.
