Sorry for the darkness lately. I was in NY this past week learning the ropes at Newsweek, and there are a lot of ropes to learn. Then I got home and wanted to spend a little time with my kids. But please, please keep sending along the pissed-off email and comments telling me how much I suck. Also, FWIW, my first column at Newsweek is now online. Title: “One Bad Apple.”

You Suck. You are Lame. This site is Boring.
There, I got it out of the way and off my chest.
Welcome back.
Just read that article online.
And it didn’t suck. I know, that’s such a disappointing thing to hear. Try harder to suck next time, okay?
It’s your blog, you can update it whenever you like
Giving your children attention? The nerve.
You can make it up to us by pretending to be FSJ for a blog or two.
I read the “One Bad Apple” article.
bla bla bla capitalism, have you heard of it? bla bla bla
Wow, your very first outing for Newsweek, and you throw in a glaring factual error?
Apple doesn’t set the prices in the iTunes store.
Nice job.
Not posting for a week is better than not posting for a month.
I seriously get worried about Dan’s safety when I see all these FSJ obsessives.
Dan, we all understand this blog is pro bono, FSJ was a bit about Bono, and that Newsweek brings bread & butter to your table. We all know that. What happened to the insight in each post?
Couple of examples of what you have missed:
Have you heard about the new 3D processor from IBM cooled by water?
Have you heard about the new 3D interface designed for Audi’s consoles?
Have you heard about some new features in OS X Leopard, like ability to use GPUs?
None of these were even mentioned on your blog. And there a tons of others.
Well, fine, Apple is starting to look like Microsoft, and Microsoft looks like IBM. Big discovery. Let me get my notepad and sticky notes, no screw the sticky notes, I will get my chisel to write that down and never forget such illuminating insight.
Maybe I am wrong, but a tech blogger should suck in a lot about technology and deliver it in a readable format. Lately, I have been scouring sites myself for readable stuff to read and, yes, it takes a bit of work to find all that but then that’s the job, isn’t it?
I love how most of the comments on this blog are actually meta-commentary that has nothing to do with the post. Hilarious. You’ve got a real special bunch of commentards here, Dan.
I know that it was your decision, but I miss Fake Steve. This blog doesn’t make sense at all. Sorry.
We still love you Dan.
For all the good insight you may have shown in the past your first Newsweek piece is a badly executed, factually wrong hit job. For once I have to agree with Ryan Block’s assessment.
What, no Palin comments? No comments regarding my speach? Did you see me? I was great. Just spectacular.
But dude, I figured that’s where you were. I seem to remember you saying the Newsweek gig was starting in September, and since it’s the beginning of September and you weren’t around, you must have been working a bit.

I miss Fake Steve too….
this is why magazines and newspapers are on the way out – they use old fashioned ropes that take too much time learning.
everyone else knows that tubes are the new technology of teh internest.
