Joy of Tech skewers Seinfeld for Borg deal

See here. Another instant classic from Nitrozac and Snaggy. Meanwhile, in related news, a source very close to the Borg has double-dog sworn to me that they did not have anything to do with the leak of the Seinfeld deal to the Journal, and they really, really, really are not happy that this news got out. So apparently the leak came from the ad agency. Bit of advice to the Borg: If you really are trying to copy Apple’s marketing playbook, then ask yourself WWSJD (What Would Steve Jobs Do) — and the answer is, you cancel the deal with Seinfeld. Just out of spite. Or because it’s no longer a secret. Or because your ad agency guys are a bunch of traitorous bastards who can’t be trusted to keep a secret and will always put their own interests ahead of yours. Or something.

  1. Or maybe let the external ad team do its thing. In case you haven’t noticed, the internal guys haven’t been doing so well, and honestly, how much worse can it get? Their rep is trashed, their product, an engineering success is a marketing disaster. All that’s left is just bunker down and let these guys work.

  2. I think I’ll agree with Chustar on this one. Its time for them to just execute the damn advertisement. If its so good, it may have success. If not, back to the drawing board.

  3. MS could save themselves 10 mil by backing out of the deal. Reaction has been poor for the most part. Part of me wants them to go through with it since these new ads with Bill and Jerry may be the most spoofed ads ever. Too much great Seinfeld material to not use. Too many Mac fans with access to editing equipment and Youtube.
This isn’t going to be pretty.

  4. I least me picking Jerry for VP didn’t get leaked.

  5. Dan, baby, baby.

Thought you had been napping for a while. Feasting on your ill-gotten gains. Or something. Welcome back. I’ll be cruising around all weekend with a stupid internet smilie on my face all because of todays confidential insider report. Shame on you. Or Something. LOL, big hugs and assorted stuff like that.

  6. Apologies if this seems spammy, but as a longtime Fake Steve reader (& owner of the book “oPtion$”), hopefully it will be forgiven. As suggested, one should always ask, What Would Steve Do?
